Default Tranny or clutch problem?

Ok so i start my car the other day and it just didnt seem to want to go into gear, it grinded when i put it in R . I turned it off and tried to start the car with it in gear it starts up but than jumps forward as if it wants me to drive it, but wont let me take it back out of gear. I tried to tighten the clutch cable as much as i could but still nothing. I just bought my car about a month ago and i know nothing about what is happening. Can anybody help me out at all? I need my car back on the road. Also i have a 93 GSR if that helps at all im not sure??

when you push the clutch in, it should "disconnect" the engine from the transmission. even if your clutch is dead, or your transmission is dead, you should be able to disconnect them.

are you sure that it's not the cable?

Dude that's a clutch issue. It's not disengaging. If you've eliminated the possibility of it being the cable, you're gonna have to drop the tranny and replace the clutch. Fun stuff...

Have someone press the clutch pedal repeatedly while you watch under the hood. Does the cable pull the throw-out lever properly? Measure how far it moves back & forth. Someone here might know how far it's SUPPOSED to move (not me, mine are hydraulic).

If you see the cable moving things properly, then the problem MUST be inside. Sometimes the clutch disk breaks up so pieces of it wedge in the pressure plate. That sounds like what's happening here.

if it is as what you are saying that clutch engagement, and cant shift while the car is on, then meaning you need to RE-Bleed the Master Cylinder. Leaking or bad master cylinder, not enough fluid pressure for clutch to engage, just re-bleed it.

to re-bleed the clutch, you will need 2 people. One to pressure the clutch back-fourth, one underneath the car to loosen-tighten the nut from the trans. Have you ever seen or done a Brake swap/Change? And when someone has to press the clutch back and fourth, stop, etc repeatedly? Same thing in the clutch, just that you need to find the nut of the trans to re-bleed it from..Its easy trust me, a 1yr can do it as long as you can find that nut to loosen/tighten while the person in the car is stepping on the clutch to cause pressure release.

As for not starting, are you pressing the clutch all the way? There may be no clutch engagement.

You said yours is cable, right?

The clutch pedal should have a switch that prevents you from starting unless the clutch is disengaged (pedal down).

The problem with not starting could be as simple as a dead battery. That would explain the weak starting before, & not starting today. It could be the clutch switch, but that would be all-or-nothing.

My car is running fine as i moved into my garage becuase it was sitting so long. Now i push the clutch all the way in and the car starts but wont go into gear? I think im going to just take it to a shop and let them deal with it, because i know nothing about fixing my car myself yet?
