Default TPS sensor help

Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a bad TPS sensor? My car recently started actin' up. The car will start and warm up at 3500rpm and then slowly decrease to 2krpm as the cold start valve warms up. Unfortunatly it never goes below 2krpm. We unplugged the TPS and nothing happened even while opening the throttle. Any help would be greatly appreciated, tia.
