Re: Torque specs for Cam Caps on b17 engine. (MikeSarr_GSR)
I agree with the above post. 8-10 on the 10mms and 18-20 on the 12mms,
this is the accepted range on B series VTEC models.
They're not all the same! they have different specs for the diff B series..get the honda service manual from the dealer if you didnt believe those specs i gave you before(might find it online) for the 92 GSR and you'll see..the big bolts suppose to be 16lbs but you could probably tighten it to 20lbs and be fine but that's a chance i wouldnt take cause it's possible you could snap a cam if you tighten them too much.
Re: Torque specs for Cam Caps on b17 engine. (D-Man)
Dude.... now this is what you said.... you said torque the "big 10mm suppose to be 16lbs but you could probably tighten it to 20lbs and be fine" There are two ways to measure the size of the bolts... by the head or by the thread.... What you just said about the 10mm bolts only has one way to be taken and that is that you are talking about the little bolts that have a 6mm thread and a 10mm head... I couldn't have taken that, as you were talking about the "big" bolts because they have an 8mm thread and a 12mm head and should be torqued to 19lbs... Now i realize that you correct torque in your second post being 96in/lbs. (8 ft/lbs) but the first at 16lbs. did not make sense.... I do 9/19 but as MikeSarr_GSR said 8-10 is fine and 18-20 is fine.. oh man,i o you an apology.that's a big mistake on my part.i dont know where the fuc i came up with 10mm where i got that is beyond me but anyway,i told the author the correct specs for the correct size bolts on an earlier thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=369164 those are the correct spec's for a B17.you said you do 9/19 which is fine for the later gsr Bs but would be a little to tight for a 92 B17,at least according to honda, which B series do you have?......again sorry for the fuc up up above
