Default TODA Spec B's???

So from what I gather TODA Spec B's are are not the best to use unless you have the mechanic that knows how to tune them. Most pronblems I have seem to see are to blame on bad tuning??? Im not calling anyone out, just trying to find out if my set up will survive.... B18C5C Spec "B" Camshafts and Valvesprings, Skunk2 Valve Retainers, and a modified ECU by Ericks Racing......? Just trying to ensure that a proper setup will ensure a good life for the Camshafts and Timingbelt???

i dont see why you should have a problem with your setup, as long as its all installed correct...

Sounds good, but I'd definately get the Hondata S200 system and forego the custom ECU.

I saw a chart comparing Toda Bs to Jun 3s. The Jun 3s stomped the Toda cams all up and down the rev range. You might want to look into the Juns if you can get them for a similar price.

Please show us this chart you speak of. Was it from the same motor with same mods? Pre vtec on toda's will usually be stronger than jun's.

if you are referring to mike k's camshaft testing its a bullshit comparison. mike cant tune toda b's in my opinoin. i let him tune mine a while back and it was bad. went to tampa and had them retuned the next day by someone else and the difference was 15whp throughout the powerband. dont believe every dyno graph you see. its all tuning, tuning, tuning, why cant everyone understand that

The chart I was referring to is at:

http://www.importreview.com/reviews/JUN3vsTodaB.html

...and yes the Toda Bs are fairly competitive from 5.2 - 8k, but based on this chart, they were clearly outdone.

ok, that was jeff's test. he can tune as i have seen a couple of his cars last year. the thing you need to really do is just tune. but a note, yes the jun cams will produce more top end than the toda spec b cams. so if you drag race alot you probably want jun cams. just an FYI

in my opinion the toda's are just fine. they are well manufactured cams and by far (in my opinion) are the best out there. All the talk about the Jun 3 cams..... they should be compared to the toda spec C's . Like other have said it all is in the tuning.

I have always thought that myself, jun2's should be compared to b's and jun 3 to c's, if they even ever needed to be compared. Both cams were designed with different powerbands in mind.

Fair enough...here ya go.

Yes indeed. It's an even worse showing by Toda.

I don't have anything against Toda cams, and both they and Jun are very expensive. Too much so IMO, but if one of them succeeds in justifying it's high cost, it'd have to be the Jun 3 cams.

Umm Jeff isnt the only tunner you know, I know 5 guys out here on the east that can tune a toda cam to crush a any jun in the midrange. Any just so you know the toda b and c have the same primary lobes so up until vtec they are exactly the same. so if they did even poorer in the 2nd plot that means the tunning was" poorer". I'm not knocking Jeff in any way either (I'm actually in a project with him as we speak) I just see people using his dyno plots as so called proof on product A against product B and I dont think its really fair for either product.

Yes, it appears as though the gears were set for peak whp w/ each set of cams. Whether this puts the Toda cams at a disadvantage I don't know. I do know everyone makes entirely too big a deal out of peak whp #s, and I set my own car up to optimize midrange. I simply do not have the money to test all of these cams on my own, and there are not enough direct comparisons made available by others. These cams are expensive enough to warrant careful consideration by anyone contemplating their purchase, and I've yet to see a chart that would make me want to buy a Toda cam over a Jun cam. Someone else may well arrive at a different conclusion. I have Crower cams, because I could get them new for about 1/3 the cost of either Toda or Jun. I'm very happy with their performance thus far.
