Default tire sizes for wheels..

if i were to get a set of wheels that are 16x7, what size tires are optimal.

i priced out 205/55VR16, and assuming they fit, i should be good to go.

i dont really understand tire sizing, so if anyone wants to educate me, or at least point me to somewhere i can read,

tirerack.com has a pretty good explanation for tire sizes & what the numbers mean.

In order to say whether that's a good size, we need to know what kind of car you're talking about. An '04 Accord doesn't take the same size as an '81 civic...

205/45/16 is the better choice. 55 sidewalls are too fat and will look funny. picture a real donut on the rims and you will understand. also 205/45/16 will have more tire choices then the 205/55/16. just my .02

Also note that 215/45/16 and 215/40/16 will fit on a 16x7 as well, and should fit rather well.
