Yea that would work... Really if you want to know exactly how many degrees you are advancing or retarding i would go with one that you can set. I'm not even sure on what brand mine is but it has digital advance and retard... It makes it really easy. All you do is set it at whatever timing you want then move the distributor till you are lining it up on the TDC mark on the crank pulley. With that one you will have to the abilty to know if you are two degrees advanced or retarded but that's really it. If you were to get that gun you would shoot at either the 14, 16, or 18 degree marks on the crank pulley.. I'll try to figure out which brand mine is then i'll tell ya.. Laterz

all the digital ones im finding are like $100 and up, and i dont really want to spend that kind of money for something i will be using a couple times. so what your saying is i will only be able to advance or retard every 2 degrees with that light? BTW is the stock timing on a 00' y8, 16 or 12

Your stock timing should be 16... When you shoot your timing with a standard light it will show you off the 16 degress BTDC mark... On each side of it is one tick. The tick closest towards the front of the car is 2 degrees advanced from 16 and the one closer to the firewall is 14 BTDC.. I suppose you could mark up you pulley but i don't know how accurate it would be. You may just want to go with that gun and you're right mine was about $115 but i use it all the time.. Damn i wish i could just loan it to ya.. haha Latez
