Default Timing on D16z6 will only retard to 14btc

Ive been running this d16z6 for a few months now with a remanufactured distributor from oreillys. When I retard it all the way it barely goes back to the 14 degree mark and never past it. Im running the afc hack and want to up the boost but I thought it might be a good idea to run it at 12 or 13 to be safe. I know I can bore out the holes in the dizzy more to let it back out more, but I am wondering why its so far back in the first place. I have had my timing belt off many times and im pretty sure the initial timing is set right. The marks are harder to read on my old school skunkworks cam gear but they look close and it seems like if I went a tooth in either direction it would be noticably wrong. Wouldnt the motor run like crap if it was off a tooth? Anyone one seen this?
