Timing belt replace?
Ok here is the deal. I bought a 92 LX civic.(stock motor) the timing belt was broke and he said the belt broke at about 75 mph. My question is do you think the valves might of been of bent? Thanks for any info. and I dont want to pull the head just yet.
You wont find out until you put the belt back on and you start it..chances are that they didnt bend if its a sohc but you never know till you try and start it

my friends crx's timing belt broke on the freeway prob going about 70. I was almost sure there would be bent valves, but when I pulled the head everything looked good. So I slapped on a new belt, and suprisingly it runs perfectly fine.
I have not seen a 1.5L motor bend valves when the belt breaks yet. Put a belt on it and do a compression check. Don't pull the head unless you like doing unnecessary work.
Yeah we are going to get finished today."hopefully" I cant get the crankshaft to stay still we have tried a few things and nothing will work. ANy ideas?

you trying to get the crankshaft pulley off to get the belt on? or it won't stay still when your trying to get the belt on?
to get that damn crankshaft pulley bolt off, your best bet is an impact gun. if you dont have one of your own, find a shop or garage nearby that has one. most garages will have pretty strong ones that should pop that bolt right off. have them blow that bolt loose, and then hand tighten it enough that it shouldnt come out on its own. then drive it home carefully and take it off yourself, and throw on that belt. good luck with your engine

The thing about this pulley is the hole does not have a hex in the end to hold it still. Has anyone tried sticking a screwdriver in the fly wheel? I hear people say that flywheel teeth will break but I know they are pretty strong. I might try that later. I can get a impact tomorrow at work but I was trying to get the car running this weekend
Who knows? Maybe I can figure out something.

Yep, the crx doesnt have a hex to hold the crank still either... I believe it's the same engine. The best thing is to take the flywheel cover off. Near the front on the bottom of the tranny case you will see a bump in the casing, there you can wedge a hex bit between the flywheel teeth (like from a drill set) and it will keep the crank from turning. Dont worry about the flywheel, the flywheel teeth are like made out of iron so the tranny case would probably give out first. Turn the wheels all the way left. Get a breaker bar with 1/2 inch extensions (I can almost guarantee 3/8 drive extensions will break) and support the end of the extensions with a jackstand (this will keep the socket lined straight and prevent any chance of stripping the bolt). Then get a 4 ft pipe and put it on the breaker bar and have at it. hth

Put the timing belt back on an leakdown test the motor, actually you don't have to put it back on but atleast make sure you are cranking the motor correctly..... put each cylinder at TDC and if air comes through either the intake or exhaust ports then you may have problems...
I got the pulley off and the new belt put on and it cranked right up.
. I had to pull the belt back off though. Need to replace water pump. Got one and hopefully will have it going tomorrow.
I will let you know whats going on.
