Default timing belt problem

I was taking my valve cover off my dohc zc today to sandblast it when I dropped a valve cover bolt down by the timing belt.

Is the only way to get to the bolt by taking that plastic shield off? thats a pain in the *** though cause you have to take that huge pully bolt off to get the shield off. Any suggestions on an easier way or is that it?

Thanks
