Default timing belt indicators

Hi, can you tell your timing belt is coming to its end of life before you need to change it? Does it start leaking or something? I often hear that timing belts gets changed prematurely because the old one was still good for a while. I am well aware of what happens when it fails. My first 1995 Honda Odyssey didn't see a timing belt until 250,000 km so I have reservation about my 2011 Odyssey getting the timing belt changed at 150,000 km.

If you can see lines on the belt, replace it. The belt will turn brownish instead of matte black.

I hear you. I changed mine at 170,000 and it did not need changing so I have kept the old one for future use.
