Default Time for a new clutch??

My clutch is starting to feel weird all of a sudden. It sometimes don't want to go into 4th gear and sometimes when I do get it in there, it gets stuck (clutch is all the way down) it won't pull back into neutral--sometime it just comes out roughly like there is a restriction--it don't just pop out right away like the other gears. Could this be a sign of a bad clutch or possibly something else? I never experienced a worn clutch before so some inputs would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Doesn't sound like your clutch...sounds like tranny woes to me.

no sounds. When I try to push it into 4th, it seems to be something blocking it like it's not the 4th gear slot but it is(straight down). Though when I let my car sit for like a day, the problem goes away for a just a little bit but comes back after a couple rounds of shifting.
Any other ideas???

Gears not going in sounds like bad synchros to me and it sounds like yours are pretty bad.

If my snychros are bad, then it would've grind right? I never had any grinding on 4th gear nor have it ever made anykind of noise, etc. I'm hoping it's just my clutch because anything else means no tranportation because of my lack of funds.
Any other inputs from you tranny experts?

How about a bad slave cyl or master cyl not releasing the pressure plate completely? How's the fluid level on the master cyl?

Having just replaced a clutch - my initial problems sounded JUST like yours. When I got the clutch out - BAM - I had a broken spring retainer. It seems that this little bugger, loose in the clutch housing, makes shifting difficult.

Anyway, replaced the clutch. TADAHH. No more shifting problems.

Thanks peeps for your inputs; I truly appreciate it. I'm gonna check my fluid on my master cylinder tonight; hopefully it's something that simple instead of a messed up synchro/tranny.

Well, I checked my master cylinder and sadly to say it's not that; the fluid is still full to the top with exception that it's black. (Still hoping to God that it's not the tranny!) Would a mechanic know by the feel of it if it's that spring retainer hub or they have to rip the tranny apart to see it?
It's weird, it's only on 4th and no grinds--just a restrictive feeling when putting it in out--when otherwise won't go in at all or won't come out of 4th gear!??

Sound slike it could be the master cylinder! Have you ever replaced your tranny fluid? I reccomend doing it every 20,000 miles~Well if all else fails you could take it to a professional to ge tit looked at!

Try some Honda MTF- sounds like a worn blocker ring (synchro) or worn collar teeth. Worn synchros don't always grind. Or the fluid you have in your trans stops the gear too fast when shifting. Try the Honda fluid- you might be surprised.

Hey fixhondas, if I take the car to the shop, would they have to take the tranny apart to check if it's my synchro?--cuz if they do, that means alot of $$.

It will cost $$$ to do just that- put the Honda fluid in- its a cheap way to improve synchro performance. You can determine alot by just driving the car. It is easier to diag a trans problem by driving opposed to just tearing one apart.

thanks fixhondas, I'm still kind of worried--though hoping that the fluid will work; although I'm very pessimistic right now because of my financial situations.

If it is also hard to get out of gear- it would suggest a clutch problem- possibly shredded or a hub spring is coming loose or the pressure plate is lopsided- hard to say without driving- fluid might help- but if the clutch is hosed it will still do this.

I guess I'll get a mechanic to test drive hoping he wouldn't charge me. I remember using engine oil for my tranny the last time I changed it--hopefully that's it--But yeah, sometimes there seems to be a wall there at 4th and sometimes I can't pull it out of 4th until pumping the clutch many times--
I also noticed when I REV UP the engine when switching from 3rd to 4th helps it get in there-though there's still that scraping feeling when going in and out--wierd.
