Default Tighten Timing belt Question!

ok i have a gsr my timing belt is kinda loose. I want it to be tight .my question is
if i loosen up then tensinor bolt and then turn the crank pulley ccw until it pass 3 tooth on the cam gear then tighten it up. wouldnt my tdc move or not be lineing up right.? or do i just go with the coat hanger thcnique and pull up the tensinor spring ?..

Loosen the tensioner bolt, then as you turn a little bit (CCW) just watch to be sure it doesn't skip a tooth. What you're doing is pulling the exhaust side of the belt tight, moving the slack over where the tensioner can take it up. I've found it works better if you hold a little tension with the crank pulley, while you tighten the tensioner.

If you have to use the coathanger method, make sure you don't pull too hard. The belt isn't supposed to be as tight as, say, your A/C belt.

The tensioner is designed to get "just right" as you torque it down after taking up all the slack on the other side of the crank (from the crank to the exhaust cam).
