Default Tie Rod bushing question

Ok, I was driving my car yesterday and it started to shake really bad.. so I pull over and check out my tires and there worn down so low on the inside that the steel belts are showing, but the outside still has tread. So I went and got tires and the guys who put my tires on said my bushings are bad. My dad talked to a mechanic he knows, and according to him I can't just replace the bushings, I'll have to replace the whole front end. Does anyone know if this is true? Because I have no idea why it would be. :\ And if it is, do you know about how much it will cost?

It would be good to know what year/model car you have. But some of the bushings might only be available by buying the control arms, for example. If several are shot, & you have to buy upper & lower control arms on both sides, maybe that's what he means by "the whole front end"... Or maybe he knows that your ball joints are ALSO shot?
