Default Ticking/Ping from under hood.

hey guys, i tried a search and got nothing.

anyway this problem just started a few days ago. After i park, and turn off the car there is kinda a ticking noise coming from under the hood. Im not really sure where its coming from, but when i tapped on the intake mani it made the noise..., anyone have any ideas?

hmm, thats what i was thinking, someone else suggested it was my exhaust system cooling down, buti think thats BS.

if the car is turned off, it isnt the valves.

It is the car cooling down and all the metal parts that have expanded because of heat are not contracting making "ticking" and "pinging" noises in the process. It is completely normal and ALL cars do it.

no he's actually right. its not your valve clearance because the car would have to be running for it to happen. its your exhaust cooling down - as it heats up and cools it naturally expands and contracts. nothing is wrong with your car - they all do that.

yeah you know i thought twice about it, and was like "the car is off, it cant be the valves" had a dumb moment there.

Still kinda puzzles me, cause ive never had it do this, stated doing it on saturday, maybe cause its getting cold now.

yeah, whoops after i re-read it. and it says you turn you car off it does that. then yeah its just your car cooling off. ALL cars do it.

also the ticking can be the oil dripping back into the pan,
or un-used fuel still burning in the exhaust....
