ticking noise
I have a semi-build b20vtec and i am clueless on what is wrong w/ my motor. I just finished this motor and I have a ticking nosie that occurs when:
- sound occurs at both cold temp and operating temperature
- ALWAYS comes after i floor it to anything past 6500 rpm
- randomly occurs sometimes, usually after some load.
When the ticking is there, If i press the gas, the noise goes w/ the RPM. If i let the car idle the noise will eventually go away. I'm clueless on what it can be. I've tried adjusting valve lashes, changed belt tensioner. Its not rod knock. Rod knock sound doesn't go away. It also isn't piston slap. Piston slap sound also doesn't go away. It may be injectors, i haven't eliminated this yet. I doubt it's injectors though, injector "clicking" usually goes away w/ higher RPM. I may be wrong so if i am please correct me. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the motor(piston 1 side). I'm not sure if it's coming from the head or block though. It sounds the same from the bottom and top of the motor. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bert
* note * i've already searched.... still no clue what is wrong w/ my engine.

Re: ticking noise (HybridBert)
it might be the lost motion assemblies. mine tick really bad in my b16 and ew went through everything and determined that it was the lost motion that holds the vtec lobe the the cam, the sound could be it slaping the cam.

I was thinking this too but does the lost motion assembly sound go away randomly or is the sound all the time? Did you motor tick all the time or go away once in a while?

I know how to fix/replace them. I'm just trying to narrow them as this being the problem. I was asking if bad LMA ticking goes away or is it always there. I believe that the sound is still there when VTEC comes on so i'm kinda leaning away from bad LMA's. I'll double check today to be certain.
