Default Thread repair

couple things i've discovered and wanted to find out if they work

timesert threaded inserts for oil pans? do these work well, with no leaks?

also rivet nuts, the threads for mounting the door on my car stripped would these work well? i haven't heard of them before, but i guess it is a hollow rivet with threads.

Any reason why you can't use a tap and die to make new threads?

the oil pan? that is a possibility, but i was hoping to keep as close to stock as possible.

on the door hinge mount the captive nut on the other side is gone, so that would not work.
