i have an ls.. im doin a head swap this next week. what should i do while i hae the head off the block... is there any cleaning i can do to the piston, walls etc? i want to get the cylinders measured to see what kinda of pistons i will need in the future (standard or oversized) would this be a good time to get an idea?... i've researched and it seems that block guards are considerd a waste of time.. soo what else?
cliffnotes: while head is off block what should i clean or what matinace work can i do to the block? what should i look i for? (its a ls engine)

well one thing you can do is if you are going to put an underdrive pulley on your alternator then no better time. Very easy access. You can also remove the carbon deposits on your piston tops. Other than that get a B16 or B18 head for the LS-Vtec!!!!!!!!
