Default is there a problem with my motor?

less than a week ago i bought an obd2 gsr motor from steve at hmotorsonline. i went and picked it up and it's very clean and very complete. i know this guy has a good rep, so i wasn't worried about the motor until now......

i've been preparing it to go into my civic, and i finally got around to checking the throttle body....... it turns out the tb won't open. the butterfly, i mean.... i cannot get it to open up. so i take the tb off to see if it is plugged from behind and i find a bunch of jet-black grease in the intake manifold itself.... so, needless to say, i am a bit worried. i've been calling steve all day but he hasn't answered my call yet..... still, i'd like to know what all of you think.... any input is appreciated. thanks.

That's totally typical. It is oil that has slipped through the PCV system. There is probably nothing wrong with the motor. Just pull the intake manifold and clean it if you want to.

i took the tb off and gave it a thorough scraping with some old dental tools (these are very, very handy around cars) and it's working now..... it's that oil that has me worried still...... let me ask, if i fire up the motor with that stuff in there, what will happen? will it just burn or does it have the potential to clog something? again, thanks

This is normal. Nothing will happen itll just stay there and continue to build up once its in your car and running. It is not a problem it just looks ugly, dont spend so much time worrying about it. If it goes in to a cylinder its ok they're made out of metal and they hold explosions so a little oil residue isnt gonna hurt anything.
