Default testing blow by

how can i roughly check my b18c1 block for any blow-by on the piston rings while head is off of block and out of car? what about the valves while head is off of the block and out of the car?

If the head's off, you cant really check blow by. You can check valve sealing by having the combustion chambers cc'd and see if any fluid leaks past the valves etc. Realistically, you should have had a leak down test done before you took the head off for a proper evaluation.

yeah leak down test and compression test should have been done to confirm a healthy motor before removing the head. You have to pressurize it, but as far as i know there is no way you can do that with accurate results with the head and block serperated.

Leakdown test is most accurate. You should do it with the motor together, much easier that way.

Bolt the head back on and have the leak down test done.
