I just picked up a test pipe for my '99 Civic EX, and I am slowly learning what I can about it, I searched. What are the main uses for a test pipe?

With a test pipe the exhaust will exit more freely with better flow, unlike with a cat on, the airflow is more restrained when it passes through cat. Test pipe is just straight through.

 

Yea but why use it? Is it better for road racing, drag or something? What are it's applications? They are no doubt illegal for street use.

Hmm... rain on my parade, eh... I think not, I knew what it did, I was wondering about it's applications. If you did not read my original post, which I am sure you probably didn't. It's applications! Seeing it is obviously illegal, seeing removing your cat is not exactly what state law says is allowed. Applications, drag racing, dyno-tuning etc. That's what I was asking about.

the application for a test pipe is anything where MAX OUTPUT is required..
