Default Temp gauge recalibration

I read a post a few years back about recalibrating the temperature gauge on a stock cluster after some idiot screwed it up installing indiglo gauges. I've been searching quite a bit, but I can't seem to find it. As of recent, a 99 civic ex has come into my shop with this same problem after some hack-mechs did the same thing. If anyone knows how to do it or where the post went, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm guessing that this is the wrong way to do it, but it should work.

With the front clear plastic removed (so you can mess with the needle), get the car up to running temp. Pull the needle off, and reinstall in the orientation you want for the current temp. Meaning, if you want running temp to be pointing straight up, get it to full running temp and put the needle on pointing straight up.

I'm guessing when the previous person pulled and reinstalled the needle, they simply didn't put it back in the exact same orientation. You do have to remove the needle to fit on an indiglo gauge face, right?
