Default temp gauge is reading way higher then it should be

i have a 93 cx that i changed the cluster to an ex. i ran it yesterday and the cluster always raises pretty quick and says im in the high red area. i changed clusters with my old one and it didnt even say the car was at operating temp. i checked the coolant temp in the radiator after the thermostat opened and it was at 150 degrees. is there something i can do to make it read correctly?

It could be grounding out. Make sure that the CX and EX clusters are set up the same in terms of wiring. I had a DX cluster in and dropped in an EX cluster without an issues on my 95 civic.

it should be just plug and play just like the dx. i think either a sensor is bad or the signal wire is messing up somewhere. im just not 100%

I would check the ECT sending unit, try one from an EX. 94

Normal operating temp. should be just about 175-200 degrees F, rad fan should turn on at about 200 degrees F. 94
