Default temp and fuel gauges

My fuel and temp gauges are messed up...I think they are either SI or EX gauges for an EG hatchback 1994. My fuel is reading full when i know its on empty and my temp is shooting to the top in the first five seconds that i start it. I took them apart to put on some white face gauges and before that they were fine....it's almost like I got the polarity backwards. There are some metal cups about 1 inch in size that go over the back of the coils for the temp and fuel gauge. I just need some pics to make sure I have them on right...If anyone could help that'd be great. I just don't wanna have to replace them because around here in Oregon they like to charge an arm and a leg for little stuff like this at the junkyards.

NO one has an answer to this? I have searched on here and every thread about these gauges is ended without an answer or by telling the person they are sensitive and just replace them...What's wrong with my gauges...I have everything plugged in correctly and they were working fine before, even the ground that attaches in the back. I don't know maybe there is a certain fuse I should check? I checked every fuse on the car and they checked out fine?????????????????
