TDC MARK FOR SOHC ENGINE - VALVE ADJUSTMENT
how can you find the TDC mark for cylinder one from the sohc motor. they don't have arrows like the dohc on the pully.
is it safe to stick something into where the sparkplug hole is and wait for it to raise up as I crank the pully to find the TDC mark?

Are you talking about the crank pulley or the cams? The cams are what you need to adjust valve lash off.
And yes it is safe to stick a screw driver into the cyclinder to verify TDC but its the cam that you want, not the piston.

i found the up mark on the cam pully. is it always going to be tdc when it is up..
if it turn it another 360 degrees back to the same spot. is it going to be tcd at number one cylinder every 360 degrees I turn?
so can i adjust both the exhaust and intake valves for cylinder 1 when I am at tdc?

You should be able to see the word "UP" on the cam gear. Another way is to check the marks on either side of the cam pulley, as they should align with the marks indicated on the plastic cover behind the cam gear (there are two marks, one on either side of the cam gear) Or you can simply do the long stick in the cylinder method.
