Default taking out the pistons & crankshaft

ok, the engine is out of the car.....i wanna take out the pistons & crankshaft....so far i've taken off the head off.....should i put it back on and try to take it off or should i just drop the oilpan....which would be easier....thanks.

the pistons and rods have to be pushed from the bottom of the engine out the top of the block..........so dont put the head back on. take the pan off and remove the rod bolts and rod caps and gently push them up the cylinders and out the top.

and be carful not to scratch up the cylinder walls........

If your going to re-use those pistons. Make sure there is not a lip of metal, carbon or both, on the top of the cylinder wall. It could damage/scratch the skirts on the pistons...

thanks guys ....but what 'bout the crank pulley bolt....is there a easier way to take it out?....the only way i can think of is to put the head back on along with the the timing belt
