Tach jumps and car skips???
I don't know what is wrong with my car. My tach will jump around wildly and the engine will skip like it's misfiring whenever the tach jumps. I know it has something to do with the distributor, because if I take the distributor off and take it apart and put it back together and put it back on, it will run fine for a while. Then it will start back doing the same thing. I tightened all the connectors and put dielectric grease on them. I even bought a new rotor button. What could it be? I originally made this post in the Integra forum and someone suggested that I ask it here.
I had the same problem with my car, and it turned out to be a bad coil... I had an msd, and put the stocker back in and the problem went away.
BTW, blacksheep, are you the one who had your civic HB stolen and stripped? I remember seeing pics of a black hatch that was raped by theives. just curious if that was you.

i had a a prblem with my tack juming and my car sounded like it wus miss fiering while i was driveing but it turnd out to be my main relay going out then wit went out on me and i replaced it and now it runs like a charm , thanx to my friends that work at honda to gaink me a nue relay
How do I know if it's the ignitor, coil or main relay? I need to fix it today, but I can't afford to buy all 3 of those parts. I need to know what will fix it ASAP!

Well I found out that it has nothing to do with my distributor. I put my friends distributor on my car and it still did the same thing. Then I put my distributor on his car and it ran fine. So what could it be? I'm thinking that my wire harness has a short in it. What do you guys think?
im thinking that if it worked after you did a mini rebuild on hte dizzy, that is where i would suggest looking for any stray/damaged wires...

Yes, the ICM is often referred to as the "ignitor".
If the dust shield in your dizzy is in-place & not damaged, you have good connections, and no open wires, the ICM is your most likely culprit, followed closely by the coil. Get yourself a Helm's & it'll walk you through every step that you need to take to pinpoint the problem.

i snaped mine and left it off, but i could put it back on...
does it have an essential purpose?

im guessin its what the other guys says,we thought the tps sensor was goin bad again
,but we put my tb on and it ran the same.i know its in the timming but i cant seem to pinpoint the correct location.also, the car runs good if u drive it and then cut it off,and then crank it back up.

The lack of that dust shield is what caused me the exact same problem that this guy's having. After checking & swapping the ICM & coil, I ended up buying another dizzy because I had forgotten about the dust shield in there, (since I had discarded mine also), & didn't think of it as a potential problem - until I saw it on the new one. I installed the shiny, new dust shield & viola! - no more erratic tach & unexplained rev limit. I think that the addition of my MSD ignition & coil created a NEED for that shield, otherwise, I may have been alright.
Yo Dirt! It ran good today, and I don't know why. Somebody tried to break into it last night though. They pushed my passenger side window down a few inches, but they didn't steal anything.
dayum man,you need to move outta that hell hole, what was it,6 breakins in 1 night???
