Default tach fluctuation, sputtering

well as the header says that i am having trouble with my 95 turbo teggy. whenever i go into high boost or above like 4500rpms my tach slams to 7500-8500 and my car sputters and i make like no power. i thought it might be my Ignitor or ICM that everyone says it is but i changed that out and it didn't work at all. i also changed my cap and rotor that didnt do anything either.

i think it actually might be a fuel injector problem if not ignition, because my wideband leans out when that happens, it goes from 11.5's to 13.5's, so i was thinking it could be a fuel problem. they are used 450's, i would get a new set but those damn things are expensive new! anyone have any other ideas ??? thanks

It is going to lean out because there is no spark in the chamber, which translates to unburned O2 in the exhaust stream, which is all your wideband will pick up, indicating lean. Only an ignition problem can cause a misfire and a tach bounce at the same time.

Did you splice wires for a swap? most people do, and they don't solder the wires, which will rot it away fast and cause a high resistance, normally in the BLK/YEL wire that feels your coil in your distributor harness.

You can also test your coil with a multimeter. Set it to Ohms, and disconnect and remove the coil. Take your leads and place them on the + and - terminals of your coil, there should be 5 Ohms resistance or less, if it is high, replace the coil. Next test on it is from the spring terminal on the coil, take one lead and place it on there, and the other on the + and then move it to the -. your reading should be around 16,000 Ohms, if it is significantly lower or higher, replace the coil.

I had a similar problem under high load, and it turned out the BLK/YEL wire worked its way loose in the distributor harness and rusted up green, causing a high load miss.

wow thanks a lot for that info! i am going to go and purchase a digital multimeter and check those out, instead of buying every damn part in the distributor!

well i checked out the figures with the digital multimeter and they all seem to match up correctly. I even had a brand new ignition coil next to me and i checked both and they matched up for the most part. i am so stuck!!! i rechecked the wiring to the yellow/blk wire and it was soldered and wrapped with shrink wrap, so i am almost positive its not that....

i am almost positive that it has to be something with fuel. why would the wideband read lean on unburned o2? it doesnt make sense, it should show a rich condition. so i guess i just have to swap my buddies 450cc injectors in my car and see if thats the problem. if not then maybe my fuel filter? i should just rip out the motor and be done with it!

It will show lean because the combustion did not occur, so it will have a high concentration of O2 in the exhaust, remember, a wideband O2 does not check fuel, only air.

What is the voltage of that BLK/YEL wire with the key in the ON (II) position, from that wire to body ground, you should have battery voltage there, if it is lower, you have a problem somewhere before that wire.

alright looks like i have to go back to Vato Zone to use their digital multimeter. i went there so they could check my coil and the store manager was like, well ya we check em but i don't know how to.....i was like, just get me the multimeter (then he was like "want a job??" hahaha almost died of laughter) thanks a lot for your help man, too bad you don't live in chicago! you would be banking off me!
