Yeah, could anyone help us out. I would like to know as well. I have only been as far as a clutch and rear main seal install in a transmission and would like to know the ups and downs of changing the syncros.
It can be done by a home mechanic but you must have the Helms manual and you will need a decent hydraulic press to get some of the gears off. You could also take it appart, take the main shaft assembly to a shop and have them change the synchros and then re-assemble the tranny your self, saving all the labor charges which is what makes it so expensive in the first place. This is what i would do (and probably will at some point if I don't learn to shift a little gentler)

no press needed, just a tiny hammer and a workmate.
Original poster, why do you think you synchros are bad? What gears are giving you issues? Most likely a shifter fork.
