why are electric fuel pressure gauges so damn expensive!?
[RANT]
i don't get it, $170 for an autometer electric FPG..... but only $50 for an autometer electric oil pressure gauge? what makes the FPG so expensive?
why the hell couldn't i just use an electric oil pressure gauge to measure the fuel pressure? they measure the same thing, liquid pressure, so why not?

They are very different gauges.
The fuel pressure gauge is a full sweep gauge with a lot more wiring and a "brain box". The oil pressure gauge is a short sweep gauge that is much simpler. They make a short sweep fuel pressure gauge that is similar in function and price to the oil pressure gauge.
I have the full sweep gauge and it is a very nice piece. Worth every penny.
If you don't want to spend the money on the full sweep gauge, the short sweep gauge is definitely better than nothing at all.

i have a B&M fuel filter top gauge, but that is almost pointless except when engine tuning. i want something inside so i can periodically monitor the pressure.
ok, so what's the difference between short and full sweep? forgive the n00b questions

The full sweep looks like this:
The short sweep looks like this:
The full sweep gauge is far more accurate and precise, but it costs a lot more money.
The underhood gauge is worthless for in-car tuning. If nothing else, at least get the short sweep!
