Apparently my brother was cruising at 60mph when this happened!
The Exhaust cam gear is white from extreme heat and the rockers on the exhaust cam are all off except 2.
BTW It is a 1990 DSM DOHC 2.0L N/A

It's not about if it happens. It's about how often in happens.

nope, looks like dropped valves due to over rev AKA miss shift, or some sort ov valve train malfunction. you said the cam gear was white??? Sounds like the cam was very hot due to lack of lubrication. the cam seized, pistons smacked the valves and in the process dropped a few. leaving you with what you have.

well that's an easy one, the oil pump failed. Same thing happened to my 87 CRX. For some reason cruising down the street it had no problem, as soon as i got on the freeway at a constant high RPM, all of the sudden no power. I could here the engine spuddering but no power. So i cruise up the off ramp, pull off to the side and pop the hood. Nice cloud comes up from the head, i notice the timing belt is shredded. Finally get it home and take of the valve cover to find my cam melted to the head. Finally found out the oil pump was junk and wasn't suppling enough oil to the head. So it not just mitsu's, honda's go boom to.
