Swapping Cranks in an LS block...Balancing issues???
Im putting a GSR crank in my LS block for my LS/Vtec setup, but I want to know if the crank will just drop right in or do I need to do any balancing so it will work right, if so how do I do it...?
What rods/ pistons? Seems like a strange combo. The reason for the LS bottom end is the longer stroke crank, so switching to the GSR eliminates the displacement increase. If stock LS rods, you have weaker ones than GSR. I don't know if there is a weight difference. If the weights are different, the crank will need to be balanced to run best. Balancing is a job for a good machine shop or experienced engine builder.
The stock ls rods wont even fit on the gsr crank Muhudsolo. Id suggest as long as your not trying to lighten the crank ,it should be fine. From what i hear, honda does a good job of balancing them from the factory.
i say if your goin to build it, build it right. take the crank to the machine shop and have them balance the crank (it might not need it) then use GSR length rods have them balanced (weight matched) and whatever type of piston. also balance the flywheel , crank pulley, and pressure plate.
btw a gsr crank will make more power in the 8000+ power range that might be why this dude whatns to use it Mohudsolo
