Default Swap from p3k to phk pistons

Do I have to hone the cylinders? or could I just put them in since they're stock? I want those for slightly higher compression and so that I could make the valve relief on them bigger for messing with cam gears.

I would atleast hone the block... If you got new pistons and rings definately do it... I personally won't even do that unless the cylinder walls are really clean... I would just overbore .25mm and go with oversized PHK pistons... I guess that doesn't really work if you already have them but i would atleast get the block honed.. Good Luck

Well it depends on if you do it yourself with a bottle hone or send it into the machine shop.... I would just pull it and totally disassemble you block, and have a machine shop do it.... Then when you put it back together you can Mic and Plastigauge all the journals... Latez...

flashback - 8000rpm redline for B20VTEC safe?

the question was asked, now you want to cut corners?!?!

do it right the 1st time and you wont have to do it again.

yes, you can do it in hte car, but mistakes will multiply and inaccuracy will reign supreme

it is HARD, unless you have done it a few time before, or you could practice on an old block before you tackle the expensive one.

anyways, not really helping am i?

patience, is the key to reliability

It can be honed with the engine in the car BUT, It will not be perfect. I have done this many times and after putting the motor back together I have noticed a lot of oil comsumption. Also, From my understanding B20 Cylinders after a while are out of round. ( ClubSI, GOD) so you may not get a good seal on those pistons.

BTW I dont think they made overbore pistons for the b20.

they make the standard honda .25 over pistons

avalible from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com for 126 for the pistons (4) and 91 for a set of rings

basically 200 bux for a brand new set not bad eh?

hows this?!?!

speaking with a b20vtec guy in Malaysia,

*apparantly* his motor builder used Ford TX3 pistons in his block = 11.1 CR.

dunno how true, waiting on the response, but hey who knows?!?!

ill get back to here shortly...

how old are the pistons (miles)?

im pretty sure you should repalce the rings, so a slight hone is necessary, (do you have an old block to practice on?)

(these pistons would be good for a few compression points , better than milling hte head like me )

good luck.

The guys said the pistons have 15k miles on them, but the rings are new. It's a left over from his build-up. He decided to go with aftermarket pistons. It already has the enlarged valve reliefs for the vtec valves(for advancing cam timing up to 4 degrees).

Well, I decided to just save the money and resleeve my block later when I blow it.

youve got my attention man... as far as im concerned a piston is a piston and Considering 10:1 was the best you could do on oem honda 11:1 sounds alot better!!
