Default Surface rust on final drive

I went to put together my new LSD today and i found some surface rust on my final drive. Its not bad, but i wanted to double check on what i should do.

would cleaning it up with wd40 and a wire brush be ok? or do i need to find a new one?

Take it to a machine shop and have it micro polished. I highly advise AGAINEST the wire brush.

Well if the rust is bad enough to pit the gear surface I would toss it out. Its a snowball effect once rust has started and the pits will eventually get biger and bigger. It's important that the gear surfaces are even. That prevents it from clicking, whinning or desintigrating itself.

If its mild like you say...I would run it through a deburring process and check the outcome

Thanks, it was very light. Just WD40 showed some results.

The machine shop beat blasted it and it looks great.

But hey, your gear speed. Ive been trying to get a price on a 3rd/4th syncro sleeve. Can you get me a price?
