Default Supsension Tech: Riding on the bump stop

I have a 92 civic hatchback and im having some trouble with my suspension. I have kyb agx struts and knock off skunk2 springs for an integ. I relize that the springs are stiffer which will result in a bumpier ride. But with the spring adjusted all the way to the bottom I am still not even tucking my 15 wheels. Also, at this point i am riding on the bump stop, which i cut in half. Even if i raise the car up 5 threads or to a 2 finger wheel well gap i still hit the bump stop on occasion.

What do you mean by "knockoff skunk2 springs"?

I would be less concerned with tucking the wheels and more concerned with staying off the bumpstops. Are you sure your hitting the stops or is the ride just really bouncy? Crank up the damping on your shocks and see if that doesn't help.

hmm..
My guess is that your supposed knock-off Skunk2 springs are a bit too long, which isn't allowing you to go as low as you'd like.

For what car chassis (92+civic? 94+ integra? etc) did you buy the KYB/AGX shocks for? because if you happened to buy some 90-93 integra KYB shocks that could your problem. The rear 90-93 integra shock body is about 1.5inches taller than any of the 92+ civic/94+ integra shocks...

by skunk2 knock offs i mean they look exactly like skunk2's but dont have a $250 name. At this point and time i wish i had spent the extra money, just so i would know i had the right ones. When the car is sitting on the ground i can look up in the fenderwell and see the the strut is comressed and that it is sitting on the bumpstop. I was having the same problem with the stock struts, and didnt know if this is something that everyone experiences with skunk2's or not. Im guessing its just me. The thing that confuses me is that regardless of spring height, i have seen many lower civics that dont have the problem of sitting on the bump stops. Ill try to get a picture of the setup so you can ge a better idea

yeah pics would help. Maybe these knockoff springs really-do suck and that's why this is happening......

just an observation.

YOu are having problems because the AGX are not designed to handle such a drop. (1.5" max drop) I figure you only have time before you blow the shocks out.

You need a shock that can handle your drop. I.E. Koni yellows....

Yes, this is a stupid question....they are sitting on the bumpstops while the car is at it's static height. Your collars are ALL the way down at the bottom. You need to raise it up at least halfway. I really wonder about some of the stuff people do to have a "nice drop."

You guys are talking like i have some lowerider or someshit. I have a 2 finger gap all the way around, by most peoples standards that isnt that low. This is the first time i had ever heard anyone say that you cant lower your car more than 1.5 in with kyb agx struts. Ive seen stock struts handle much lower rides. My question isnt asking so much how to lower my car more as to why i am sitting on the bump stop at such a high height. If i raise it half way up the collar like you suggest I will be sitting at stock height if not above. Has anyone else ever heard that KYB can only take a 1.5 drop?

it appears as though the shocks are incorrect for your application as was stated earlier. Sorry I can't be of more help.

PS- If it is riding on the bumpstops now then you might as well start looking for new shocks anyway b/c those are more than likely dead from bottoming out ALL THE TIME.

I just raised it up 10 coils( about 1/2 way) its still sitting on the bump stop. These struts are less than 2 weeks old. Garbage

the sleeves and the springs are all the same length. How can you tell when a gas strut is blown?

[b]Ummmmmmmmm ???? Hello I believe your bumpstop sits high due to the coilover sleeve is on the incorrect strut perch......

Look at the bottom of your sleeve !!!! Your sleeve should allways fit around this lower/bottom collar part !!! ............. Make sure the coilovers are compatible.

Every coilover setup i have ever seen for a honda/acura has a standard diameter. I have never seen one big enough that it would fit around the bottom part of the strut so that it would fit on the bottom perch. The only thing that i have seen sit on the bottom perch is a standard spring.

Wrong. There are different style sleeves for a Tokico/oem shock and different sleeves for a Koni shock. Looks like you might have got the wrong kind. My Koni sleeves are wider in diameter than my Tokico sleeves.

Double check that you got the correct item. Also, make sure the springs are at least 7" tall.

WRONG !!! please review your sources ........ If you look at Koni shock or even Tokico's they are matched to fit the collar of a coilover depending on application (obviously depending on the diameter neede for fitment reasons).

are you saying when you order a strut you gotta tell them what coilover/spring your using? Or that you gotta order kyb vs. koni depending on what coilover/spring you have? I have never heard this.
