Default stupid question: what is this? [PIC]

Just trying to figure out if I need it with my new fuel system. I notice most drag cars don't use it, and most plumb an AN fitting straight into the end of the rail where that thing is..

I believe it's called the fuel pulse dampener.

Absorbs the shock created when the fuel injector closes. Makes the injectors last longer. That's my theory.

It's main purpose is to reduce noise and vibration in the fuel lines.

ok, second question then... what size are the threads of that thing (I assume it isn't an AN fitting..), and/or what size is the banjo?

Well, I heard it's a combination of those things... It acts as a secondary filter (sucks), dampener, and anti-drainback (maybe). Basically it's a POS, you don't need them. Honda scrapped the idea on D-series motors after OBD-0... It's too restrictive and the fuel system will last just as long without it.

All performance oriented later year honda's don't have it. It's nothing but a bottle-neck.
