my car has done this twice, once in the morning after sitting all nite in crazy mist and flat out wetness, and once recently after i washed my car-
my car will crank and crank and crank, and seem to start, but as soon as i let go of key, i hear a slight sort of intake backfire and then a big exhaust backfire and the car dies...so, ill keep key turned and give gas to start and eventually, the starter will be turning while the motor is sorta farting/ half idling, and it will start, but idle bad, low vacuum, low overall idle number...so, ill pull plugs (cold bkr7e-11) and of course they are black, in fact #4 was wet with fuel (smelly)...so i change to a clean set and the last time i this happened, which was the second time overall (hap'd this weekend) the car drives fine now, but it idles a little different a little more inconsistent, vacuum is down a slight bit (used to be consistently @ 1/2 inch, now is most of the time, but dips below slightly) but it drives and everything else fine, dont hear anything strange, power is the usual, etc.
I want to reiterate that the underhood did not get wet at all when i washed it, however, im sure there was water present the first time this happened during the really misty, wet night in which the car sat all nite.
Also, my intake (filter) is located right behind a hole in mu bumper cover, and i know its poss. it might have gotten a bit wet, and im thinking maybe the slight moisture drawn into cyls, added to the rich start-up prime the high pres. pump gives AND the cold plugs, might have caused this, but then again, that hole and filter have been inplace for about 5 years...
all my ignition components are new (less than 6 mos), sans my MSD 6al, which is about 6 years old at this point.
Any thoughts?
