steering rattle / shake
On a 98 GSR, the aligment is a *tad* off.. the steeringwheel shakes and rattles in some situations.
When braking lightly at high speeds, and when hitting heavy bumps, are the only two instances I have noticed it.
My first thought was warped rotors, but spinning the rotors freely doesn't make any contact noise with the brake pads, and its not really when heavy or most braking situations.
If I am going above 80mph and brake in a straight line the steering wheel ratles and shakes alot. If I brake heavily, or brake while turning, it will stop completely.
Checking under the car, everything is tight and torqued to speck, no worn bushings, no excessive play. The only thing I could find is one of the bolts holding the front sway bar is bent slightly (weird eh?), so I ordered new ones.
Could the alignment and the bent bolt be the culprit? or should I look further into the suspension and steering rack?
TIA.

You might want to try and check if your wheels are balanced correctly. If they are not balanced correctly with the right weights, you will get a vibration that will get worse at higher speeds, and you will feel the vibration in your steering wheel.
It only happens in very select circumstances, unbalanced wheels would probably be all the time at high speeds.
I got two suggestions on things to check fyi, the hub might be loose, or there might be too much play in the axle. I am going to check both tonight, and will post what I find.
On another note, I saw a simmilar problem that was fixed by replacing the UCA, anyone have good ideas on how to check for faulty UCA's other than just trying to shake and see if there is any play?
