Default static discharge problem

i need help from the electrical gurus.

everytime i get out of my car and touch a part of my car, a static discharge goes off. like the feel of getting electricuted. it's not the best feeling in the world.

now, my best guess is, that there's a short in the car somewhere. when i bought this car 9 or 10 months ago, the thermostat controls would go on and off. my dome light doesn't work. and my hazards don't work either. i'm trying to get a friend of mine to help me up with this.

it'd be great to hear from people who actually have electrical expertise.

thanx

You could park on a static discharge strip like F1 and Touring car drivers, if matters that much to you. There is no other way to ground the static...

When you get out of the car, instead of touching the door with your bare hand, hold your key and touch the key to the door. That'll discharge the static without you being able to feel it. You'll still be able to see and hear it though, which in itself is kinda neat.

maybe put it in a less visable spot ???

wow! that's really helpful. thanx eskram.

i'll try to hold the key up to the frame of the car/ the handles to dissipate the discharge. this is some real good info. grounding strips? where can i find them? how much would they cost me?

thanx

another thing that is rumored to cause it is duct in your car , some people told me to apply a little 3m scotchguard here and there and keep the carpet and dash clean-
it does seem to do it a little worse when its dirty but it could be placebo
