My question is will this style starter work in place of my current starter which looks like the one in the second picture. They are both from B series and the style of the first pic will bolt up in place of the one in the second picture but im wondering if the different style of starter gear will be a problem? Is one style auto and ones manual or just ones older than the other?

there are lots of different brands and styles of starters. And different types.
As long as it bolts up, and it's from the same type of motor, it should work.
i'm not saying i'm 100% sure that will work on urs. but if you look in ur helms manual under how to fix ur starter, it gives u like 3 different types of starters for the same type of car..

this is true, i just opened up a starter that looks like the first picture and it did bolt up to my motor but made a similar noise to what my other one was making. The contacts inside were dirty and one was out of place so i fixed it and im gonna drop it in quickly and hope it works.
Thanks for the reply

not something along the ignition circuit</TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah ive been trying to rule out as much as possible. Thing is im 99% sure its the starter because it wont spin the engine at all which means its not a ignition problem or anything other than the starter being weak or somehow the battery being weak (brand new battery)

hook up a multimeter to ur battery to test that its still got juice.</TD></TR></TABLE>
did the jumper test, thats why im 99% sure its a starter issue cause it made the same sound as trying to crank it normally.

well it seems it was the alternator aswell as the solenoid wire being loose on the connector im thinking. Car starts up fine, now to troubleshoot my charging system light issue.
