sputtering at low temps cold start
my 96 civic doesnt do it often but when i have not started it overnight and its cold in the morning it sputters at low revs and then revs up after a second or to to warm up, is there a fix or explanation for this?
Could be the insulation breaking down on plug wires, cap, or rotor?
Try checking it when it's real dark out. Turn off all the lights & start the engine. Look for arcing on the distributor cap & plug wires. (Looks like a dull blue glow.) It works better if the engine's thoroughly cold, & maybe use a windex bottle to spray a little water on it. That's a lot easier than trying to visually look for defects in the insulation.
There's other possible causes, but arcing is easy to look for. BTW, how old are the spark plugs?
