Default Spring rate question

Ok, I think I made a mistake a long time ago, when I didnt know what I was doing. I bought sleeve coilovers and it came w/ 350 and 450 springs for front and back. Now I think the softer ones are supposed to go in the front, but I did them backwards. So Ive got the 350 in the rear and 450 in the front (thinking the front was heavier= stiffer spring). Just wondering if this could pose a handling problem?? should I go through the trouble of switching back or just leave it.

Having heavier springs in the front will just cause the car to understeer. As speeds pick up, the car will just want to go straight and plow through corners. Your tires will thank you!

Stock '96 Civic (engine wise)?

I agree - for a street vehicle it probably makes more sense to have the stiffer ones up front. But it depends on what sort of handling characteristics you like your car to have. If you were to swap them around, you'd be pretty tail-happy. Probably too much for the street.

In my opinion, it's easier to keep a near stock spring rate balance front to rear, and tune under/oversteer with sway bars. The 450/350 combo might be slightly too stiff in the front, but not by much.

But think of it this way . . . . you now have an excuse to drop an H22 in there . . . . . You've already got the springs to hold it up, so why not?

I run a weak 300 front and 190 rear. (Neuspeed Sport springs)

For daily street I like it.

Damn I feel like a hard *** running 600's up front and 500's in rear. They are great for autocross and Roadracing but kinda suck for daily driving.

wow, thanx for the info guys, this's been the most enthusiastic response Ive gotten in the past few posts. hmm, guess my 69th post is a lucky one. Well, looks like I didnt make that big of a mistake at all, considering I do want to keep a street setup, because this is a daily driver.

Daemione,
yes, I do have the D16 in there still, but u hit it on the head, indeed a very conviencing excuse to save some suspension reworking, and just get the H22 Ive been looking into... mmmmmm...

98EK4,
yeah, I had a friend who just put the same rate springs in his G2 teg, wow, forget sleeping while riding shotgun on the freeway, I ended up w/ a bruised knee and a headache from banging against the window. and I thought mine were stiff when I first got them...hehe
