Default SPOON headgasket blown

I was going to install a Spoon headgasket on my ITR, but I recently met a guy who builds honda race engine and he said he had some probs in the past with blown spoon gaskets. He recommended the mugen one!
Any truth in that? I thought they were very similar if not the same?
Please help! Whats your experience?

I've heard of this too. The mugen gasket supposedly seals better than the Spoon gasket....but that's what I've heard...I don't have any proof to back that up.

Supposedly the spoon piece is just a honda head gasket without the center layer, and with the Mugen one being $115 on the king motorsports website, ya cant go wrong there.

So you're saying that because the Mugen gasket is on King Motorsports website, that I "can't go wrong?"

I had a R that had a peice of the spoon gasket broke off and went down into the engine and fucked the block. Needed to get a new short block but it actualy got covered under warranty.

For now thanks for the input, maybe I just sell the spoon one and buy the Mugen, probly is safer.
If anybody else has experience with this issue, please share.

Thanks guys

no, not because of the website, but because its a good piece and costs less than all the others.

Never had a problem with the Spoon gaskets. I ran them on two different motors...

....also, the Mugen gasket is laser sealed (unlike the spoon gasket) which is a little better for sealing the block and head. less chance of a leaky headgasket.
