SPOON headgasket blown
I was going to install a Spoon headgasket on my ITR, but I recently met a guy who builds honda race engine and he said he had some probs in the past with blown spoon gaskets. He recommended the mugen one!
Any truth in that? I thought they were very similar if not the same?
Please help! Whats your experience?

Supposedly the spoon piece is just a honda head gasket without the center layer, and with the Mugen one being $115 on the king motorsports website, ya cant go wrong there.

I had a R that had a peice of the spoon gasket broke off and went down into the engine and fucked the block. Needed to get a new short block but it actualy got covered under warranty.
For now thanks for the input, maybe I just sell the spoon one and buy the Mugen, probly is safer.
If anybody else has experience with this issue, please share.
Thanks guys

i just cleaned off the top of the block w/ a shop rag & the head just had a standard auto machine shop resurfacing. torqued down to spec and so far so good.

....also, the Mugen gasket is laser sealed (unlike the spoon gasket) which is a little better for sealing the block and head. less chance of a leaky headgasket.
O well i'm just gonna stick with my Spoon and spray lots of this on.
