Speedometer inaccurate 95 Prelude Si Auto
So I just picked off a 95 Prelude Si with 56k miles. Car is in excellent shape. With its age it does have a few minor things to be corrected. My biggest issue is the speedometer. I test drove it and never went over 40 or so I thought. Took the freeway to get home and the car said 65mph but my wife called and said I was doing 90mph. It is off pretty much from 15mph+. The tach and odometer seem to work fine. The abs light is on code 1. Car is automatic. Has anyone encountered something similar to this? Simple fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unlikely. I am unaware of any VSS sensors from another application that would FIT on the Prelude transmission. I am not sure how you have concluded that the Odometer is functioning properly... but IF you used a GPS, drove on the Interstate at a GPS indicated 60 mph... and when the Odometer hit zero on the tenths... start a timer. If exactly 60 seconds later, the Odometer hits zero again, then your problem is a bad speedometer gauge. You will have to either have it repaired or replace it.
So when I used my gps watch I pretty much set the trip to 0 and started my watch. They tracked pretty dang close to each other. One wasn’t falling behind the other. I will try your suggestion of doing it later on this evening and see what happens. I called a local place that repairs/restores gauges for old high end cars and they said they don’t work on Japanese brands due to no parts availability. Would you happen to know if anyone that repairs them just in case it is the speedometer?
