spark plug shot out of engine!!!
so i was driving to the store at about 10 pm and was 3 blocks from my house. i was turning right onto this other street and hear this scrapping noise and loud noises coming from my engine. i was right next to a firestone and was gonna back up into their lot to get off the street. my car didnt like that. something was scrapping and making lots of racket. so i turn on the hazards and look in the engine and under the car and see the plastic guard under the engine was loose and dragging. so i shove it back up and try to start the engine again and it sounds loud as hell. so this time i pop the hood and set it up and check all the belts and make sure the axles arn't broke, that noting is leaking etc. i get back in with the hood still up and try to turn it over and see something shoot out of the engine. i'm all what the **** was that? and get out to see the spark plug has shot out of the engine but is still connected to the plug wire. then i know all the noise is a cylinder not fireing. the other wires were loose too b/c they were all held by a plastic connector. so i dont have any tools and use the wire to screw the plug back in. i cant tell if its working so just do it a while and refasten everything. i start the car and pull into the firestone. the car is sounding better but still not good. so i walk back to my house and grab some tools and an old stock wire and walk back. i'm worried that the threads in the head got stripped, but the plug goes back in fine and i hook up the old wire and drive home. its running fine but i don't know if it sounds like before 100% or not.
the cylinder that the plug shot out of had a loose plug wire. i have msd wires and it was always connected to the plug but didnt fully lock into place. its been like that for a month now. the only thing i can think of is that the plug was loose and worked its way even more loose until it shot out. now in hind sight thats probably why it didnt lock, but it always did before and i havent messed with the plugs in quite a while. i've heard of msd wires not locking though.
so have any of you heard of this? anything i should check out to see if everything is ok before driving again? sorry so long but it just happened and was interesting. peace

When you put everything back together, make sure to anti-seize the spark plug threads and torque the plugs to 13lb*ft.
Check all you spark plugs.
Check all you spark plugs.

Re: spark plug shot out of engine!!! (EVIL Teken)
I have a similar story with my 86 Si Prelude... it was a 12valve
with alot of tq... fun car!!! the only thing was the spark plugs
went in on a 45 degree angle on the side of the head, well
I was 17 and we took the car to jiffy lube. they forced the
plug in there... it eventually shot into the hood and dented
it when I was on my way to HS one morning at 55mph...
it was like... POW... PSH PSH PSH PSH sounding like a
big air compressor... no doubt it had to be heal-a-coiled
it went in and got a head mill as well, came back with slightly
more UMPH.
haha... that SUCKED. I was without my ride for a month and
it took $750 to fix the issue. I wish I still had that car with
the motor/tranny from my GSR. I would have no payments and
a pretty fun ride, tricked to the hilt and super - fun.
hope everything worked out for you on that one...

yeah, i got a small dent in the hood i noticed today. guess the plug was loose and everytime i tried to started the engine it was like a little piston (using the plug wire) and cylinder (spark plug tube) hammering away. oh well. live and learn. thanks for the imput, guys.
