It's a tanish (maybe white) wire underneath the dist. It comes out of the harness where the oil pressure wire and vtec wiring is at.







It's a civic cx harness that was wired for vtec. Motor is a built B18C.

Never noticed it till recently.
My check engine light has been coming on for Overheating, but the temperature gauge isn't getting hot, the car isn't boiling, nothing. I am wondering if this wire has something to do with it.

 

The temp gauge and sensors are 2 wires, not one. It mite be for your back up switch on the transmission that lights up your tail light when you put it into reverse.

 

In the last pic, you can see how it looks like a ground or something was sleeved around it at one time. :confused:

It's very weird that I keep getting the check engine light for overheating, but it's not overheating.

temp gauge is a single wire

have u checked the wiring to the engine temp sensor? its the 2 wire sensor below vtec solenoid

 

1 wire O2 wire. You need to pull the check engine light and post the codes and fix your overheating before you warp the head.

 

Definitely what it is. You can see the shielding on it as well.
