Default sohc vtec valve clearance issue Help Help

the car is a 99 accord vtec

it was my first time actually rebuilding a Honda motor and everything went well with help from a few pros. All after market parts and a 75 shot put 247hp and 249lbs of tq to the ground at the dyno in georgia.

Drove the car for a few months untuned turned up the spray to 100 shot and hit my factory rev limiter causing a backfire through the intake and pulled one of my stainless steel valves through the keeper , keeping it from seating. This forced me to pull the head once again , took the head to the shop and had it inspected once again. new factory valves replaced the heavy stainless valves. anyway

i have replaced the head and i am doing it this time without help. the valves need to be adjusted and the exhaust side goes fine but there is a problem with the intake valve on each cylinder closest to the cam gear. they don't seem to loosen up because of the spring pushing them towards the valves. I can push the rocker off fo the valve but it is not helping me with the adjustment.

any ideas on this?

the camshaft is a crower regrind since thats all that is available for the f23 vtec.

should i just tighten until i can't move the feeler then back off when i get the correct amount of drag?

I'm not sure what the problem is.Is it you can't loosen the adjuster lock nut?Your adjusting the valves at tdc of each cylinder on the firing stroke right.

no the stud and nut move just fine. I can back the stud all the way out and still no clearance. the spring that wraps around the rocker shaft on the intake side is forcing the rocker onto the valve even when the stud is loose. I can then back the rocker off by forceing the spring back against the spring but it just dosen seem to be the properway to make a clearance adjustment i guess.

since my post went ahead and adjusted the valves according to specs even though i had to force the spring back to place the feeler into the corect place for measurement. I guess this will work. i wont be starting it up until next weekend anyway because i work all week but i am sure i have the correct cylinder at tdc when adjusting the valve because all the other valves 1 intake and two exhaust valves are loose and its the same way on each cylinder as i rotate the cam 1,3,4,2.

i have seen this a few time but on burned exhaust valves, due to the seat being worn and the valve being sunk in.

in your case the heavy valves and stiff springs may have just banged the seat into the head, and i have heard that is possible, just never personaly experienced it.

either way its time for new valve seats or a new head
