Default sohc vtec head?

how can you tell if a head is vtec if there is no valve cover? also what parts will i need to make a 98 sohc vtec head fit on my 95 vtec block(ie: manifold, distributer, head gasket, valve cover)?

Why are you swapping the head? There is only a slight difference in compression and the cam grind...in any case, just look for the VTEC solenoid on the passenger-side rear of the head. If the engine is a 98+ wouldn't it say VTEC on it, anyway?

You'll probably need the headgasket and maybe the dizzy, but that's probably all...

also, the spark plugs are angled toward the exhaust side of the head....but the VTS should be a dead giveaway..

also the engine codes on the block will tell you what model engine it is....

but if it has no head..its safe to say that it lacks vtec till you put a vtec head back on it.

The dead givaway is the vtec solenoid to the back left of the valve cover. behind the dizzy.

Doing a 98 head to a 95 block is going to be OBD1 to OBD2 as far as the head goes and I don't think you are going to be able to use the z6/zc IM either, its got to be 96 up also. You'll need the guts from a 95 dizzy... hint hint good luck

actually you're kinda of wrong..
He can reuse his OBD1 electronics/ignition parts and intake manifold on the 98 head.
