sohc arp headstud issue
Ok ive got a buddy of mines w/ a sohc vtec engine just got done out of the machine shop. Now the bottome end is a 98 d16y8 and the head is d16z6. We are in the process of putting the headstuds on but when we put the head on the threads stick out above the head about 1/4 to 1/2 in so even if you try to snug them down the actualy nuts wont touch the head. Any suggestions its like the studs are too long.
I did the reverse,I put a D16Y head on D16Z block, only two studs where longer. The outer ones on the intake side. After dealing with arp, they said my only and best option was to put arp washers under the studs in question.I ended up using 3 in total on one and 2 on the other......I think ARP just came out with a new set for the D16Y but im not sure......you gotta call them
ps.........how many studs are too long? it should only be 2,right?

Damn thats messed up!
I would think that APR would atcully have done some research. But is it only with the D16 head bolts? I haven't heard anything bad about the B-series bolts.

yup...its sad.You know what also sucks. They highly recommended NOT to try and thread the studs the rest of the way down AND they won't even bother making one custom length ones even if you wanted to pay $$$ for them
