Default soft brake pedal on hot days

Only on hot days, I have this problem of the brake pedal being too soft. So soft I have to pump the pedal to stop. If I leave my foot on it, at a stop, it will sink to the floor. TIA.

Bleed your brakes...thats most likely it (hopefully)...if you dont know how, might be somethin you want done by someone who knows what to do..not too hard it can be a bitch and easy to make worse... Plenty of places online that will teach you how to..

If you cant find them ill get you a link.

I have the same problem, only happens when it gets hot out. So I don't think bleeding the brakes will fix anything. I also talked to my mechanic about bleeding the brakes. He said you really never have to bleed the brakes unless you drain the hole system or the fluid in the cup got way belowe the line. So I don't think thats what our problem is.

try bleeding the brakes first. if it still happens, then check the master cylinder.
similar problems i had then a few weeks later master cylinder crapped out going down hill. have it checked right away.

Two different problems... You each might have different ones. Maybe you have both.

Air in the brake lines:
Pedal is immediately soft, pumping it up helps. If you stop the car & pump up the pedal you can stand on the pedal for a while & it'll stay there. Bleed the brakes.

Bypass in the master cylinder:
Brakes work like normal, especially if you press hard on the pedal. But 'sometimes' the pedal will slowly sink to the floor while you press lightly on it. You need a new master cylinder.

You need to flush fresh brake fluid every 2 years. It absorbs moisture from the air & this makes it corrosive. Corrosion inside the system can cause that bypass. Bleed the clutch too, for the same reason.

Edit... Thanks to NonovUrbizniz...
Brake hoses:
Pedal is soft & mushy, but pumping the brakes doesn't help... If you check each hose while somebody pumps the pedal you'll find one that blows up like a balloon. Look for leaks, too.

I did the tests in the Helms, and results say booster and check valve are fine. Manual says either M/C or a caliper is bad. I'll change that M/C out today. Thanks y'all.

it could also be water mixed with the b.f.

it could also be bad hoses (the hotter they get the more they expand although this wouldn't cause the pedal to go to the floor repeatedly)

My guess would be bad master or caliper like the manual said though...

It's certainly worth the time and money to fully flush the b.f. before you go and spend all that money on a master or caliper...just to be sure it's not old/dirty/wet/or air ridden b.f.

good luck

Hiep Loi has the M/Cs? How much? Autozone is about $30.

Autozone is only $30 for a m/c? How much work is involved swapping it out?

It's cake. No more than a 1 hour job (with a few smoke breaks and sitting around). Read this or the same post here. I was thinking about doing it today. If you want we can do your car today.
