i bought my 1997 del sol sohc d16y8 about a month ago.
the only mods on it are a comptech 4-2-1 header, and ebay intake.
the CAT is not good cuz its not obd-2.
i talked to a guy about how to get it certified.
he says i need to get the stock exhaust manifold/converter. "350 bucks"

*heres the question: if i just got a odb-2 catalytic converter would my car pass smog without sacraficing my header? ... or do i must have that oem manifold/converter?

Just get an OBD2 cat and you will be fine and about the header, if it has a CARB EO# then you are good to go.

The header is fine as long as it has a CARB EO. I'm guessing your eBay intake doesn't though, so I'd be more concerned about that after you get a proper cat.
